DESIGNS ON THE FUTURE

The Earnest Workshop has put a stake in the ground, and is firmly standing by its belief that furniture design and manufacture in New Zealand is not just the preserve of cottage businesses.

"With a range that incorporates everything from Peel, the inaugural
coat stand, to its latest piece, Oliver, the sleek but infinitely practical
sideboard, this is a company that practices what it preaches."

Founder and designer Dan Gillingham was struck by the rise of ‘disposable’ furniture - something that historically people have valued for its durability, and felt compelled to create pieces that will stand the test of time both aesthetically and practically.

With 20 years experience in furniture design and manufacture he has managed to effectively develop a business model that enables The Earnest Workshop to produce furniture reliably, to deadline and in the quantity required by a commercial client. He considers key to ongoing success will be an ever expanding portfolio of products, the ability and willingness to produce bespoke pieces, plus sustained high quality, New Zealand manufacture and above all a sterling service. Thus far these factors have ensured that The Earnest Workshop has carved out a niche for itself in both the retail and commercial markets.

MOVING WITH THE TIMES

While the ethos of The Earnest Workshop is essentially based on a belief in traditional values, its business practice is based on a belief in cutting edge practice:

By making 3 dimensional files of each piece of furniture available as Building Information Modeling (BIM) for Architects and Interior Designers, founder Dan Gillingham hopes that he will open up the options further to designers.

Having been told that the repertoire was currently fairly limited, Dan saw this as the perfect opportunity to extend the selection and at the same time expose his own work to a wider audience. Available in Archicad and Revit Library file formats the files include product options, wood colour finish and upholstery variations – thus the designer can tailor the specification perfectly to the style of the client.
